World Dog Federation Launches Its Digital Examination System for Official Dog Show Judges

The World Dog Federation (WDF) is pleased to announce the introduction of its new Automated Digital Examination System for Official Dog Show Judges, a major step forward in the standardisation, qualification and continuous development of judging expertise throughout the Federation.

World Dog Federation Launches Its Digital Examination System for Official Dog Show Judges

The new system has been designed to establish a modern, structured and transparent educational pathway for candidates wishing to obtain official judging qualifications within the World Dog Federation network.

Before taking the examinations, candidates will have access to dedicated preparation courses and official educational materials, developed to provide solid theoretical and technical knowledge in the principal disciplines required for professional canine evaluation.

The examination programme will include, among other subjects:

  • Cynognostics and canine morphology
  • Cynometry and morphological measurements
  • Canine locomotion and movement analysis
  • Biomechanics
  • Canine genetics
  • Skeletal anatomy and structure
  • Muscular anatomy and function
  • Zootechnical evaluation
  • Breeding principles and ethics

Particular attention will be given not only to breed assessment, but also to the scientific understanding of the dog as a functional, anatomical and genetic subject. The purpose is to prepare judges capable of evaluating dogs with competence, consistency and responsibility.

A Structured Qualification Pathway

The WDF examination system will provide different levels of qualification:

Entrance Assessment
A preliminary examination designed to evaluate the candidate’s basic knowledge and suitability for entering the official educational pathway.

National Dog Show Judge Examination
Qualification for judges operating within their respective national kennel club system.

International Dog Show Judge Examination
An advanced qualification intended for judges who have acquired the necessary experience and technical competence to officiate at international events.

World Dog Federation Federated Judge Examination
The highest level within the WDF educational and examination structure, dedicated to judges who meet the Federation’s advanced technical, professional and ethical requirements.

Digital Examinations with Local Supervision

The examinations will be conducted through the official WDF online examination platform, while candidates will physically attend the designated premises of their respective national kennel clubs.

Each examination session will therefore combine the advantages of a centralised digital system with direct local supervision.

Qualified examination evaluators and official judges appointed at national level will supervise candidates during the examination sessions, ensuring correct identification, procedural compliance and the integrity of the assessment process.

This model will allow the World Dog Federation to establish common examination standards across different countries while maintaining the direct involvement and responsibility of its national kennel club representatives.

Education Before Examination

For the WDF, an examination must not simply determine whether a candidate passes or fails.

The objective is to create a genuine professional educational pathway.

For this reason, candidates will receive study materials and will be able to participate in preparatory courses covering the scientific, technical and ethical subjects included in the examination programme.

The Federation intends to promote a new generation of judges whose decisions are supported by knowledge of morphology, anatomy, genetics, movement, biomechanics and zootechnical principles, rather than by visual impressions alone.

Raising the Standard of Dog Shows

The introduction of the new examination system forms part of the World Dog Federation’s broader programme for the digitalisation and international harmonisation of canine activities.

Judges have an essential responsibility within every dog show. Their assessments influence not only competition results, but also breeding choices, selection programmes and the development of breeds over time.

For this reason, the World Dog Federation believes that the qualification of an official judge must be supported by serious education, measurable competence, transparent examination procedures and continuous professional development.

Through this new system, WDF aims to provide exhibitors, breeders, kennel clubs and canine enthusiasts with an increasingly qualified and technically prepared international judging body.

Modern technology, scientific education and professional responsibility will work together to build the next generation of World Dog Federation judges.

The goal is clear: to offer exhibitors throughout the Federation the highest possible level of competence, professionalism and innovation in the world of modern cynology.
