WORLD DOG FEDERATION: WE MUST BE DIFFERENT. WE MUST BE BETTER.
An official message to all WDF-affiliated Kennel Clubs, national representatives and event organizers worldwide. Organizing a WDF dog show is not simply about awarding titles, inviting judges or filling exhibition rings. It is about responsibility, professionalism, animal welfare, education and, above all, respect for the people who share our passion.

THE WDF NAME REPRESENTS A COMMITMENT, NOT JUST A LOGO.
The World Dog Federation wishes to address an important message to every Kennel Club, national organization, representative and event organizer operating under the WDF name.
We are not building another federation simply to reproduce what already exists.
We are building an international canine community founded on different principles, a different philosophy and a genuine commitment to improving the experience of everyone involved in the world of purebred dogs.
We all know the traditional exhibition systems. Many of us have spent years participating in events organized within the FCI circuit and other established organizations.
We know their procedures, their organizational structures, their strengths and, unfortunately, the situations that have left many exhibitors disappointed.
Overcrowded exhibition areas, unnecessary stress, difficult communication, excessive competitiveness, inadequate attention to exhibitors’ needs and environments where personal rivalries sometimes overshadow the real purpose of a dog show.
Of course, these problems do not characterize every FCI event, and there are excellent organizers and professionals within every canine organization.
Nevertheless, these experiences should teach us something extremely important.
WDF MUST NEVER BECOME A COPY OF THE SYSTEMS WE WANT TO IMPROVE.
Our objective is not simply to offer different championships or alternative certificates.
Our objective is to create a better environment in which dogs, breeders, handlers, judges, professionals and enthusiasts can come together through genuine passion, education, mutual respect and international cooperation.
For this reason, every organization authorized to hold an event under the WDF name must understand that it represents much more than its own Kennel Club.
It represents the values, reputation and future of the entire World Dog Federation.
1. RESPECT WDF REGULATIONS AND EVENT ORGANIZATION GUIDELINES.
Every WDF-recognized event must be organized in accordance with the applicable Federation regulations, technical requirements, judging procedures and official event organization guidelines.
These requirements are not optional formalities.
They exist to ensure consistency, professionalism, fairness and credibility across our international network.
National Kennel Clubs may have their own identities, traditions and organizational practices, but the WDF name must always represent a recognizable level of quality.
An event must not be considered successful merely because it has attracted a large number of entries or awarded numerous titles.
Success must also be measured by the quality of the organization and the experience offered to participants.
2. EXHIBITORS ARE NOT NUMBERS. THEY ARE THE HEART OF OUR EVENTS.
Every exhibitor attending a dog show makes a considerable investment.
Travel expenses, accommodation, fuel, entry fees, grooming equipment, dog preparation and time away from work or family.
These people deserve respect.
They should never be treated as nothing more than registration fees or entry numbers.
Event organizers must provide clear information, accessible assistance, properly managed registration procedures and staff willing to help participants throughout the event.
An exhibitor asking a question should receive an answer, not an attitude.
Without exhibitors, breeders and handlers, there would be no dog shows. Never forget that.
3. ORGANIZED SPACES ARE A NECESSITY, NOT A LUXURY.
One of the most common frustrations experienced at traditional dog shows is the lack of properly organized space.
Exhibitors arriving extremely early simply to secure a suitable position.
Crates crowded together.
Equipment blocking walkways.
People struggling to prepare their dogs in uncomfortable conditions.
This is not the experience we want associated with WDF.
Every organizer must carefully plan the exhibition environment, taking into consideration the expected number of dogs, exhibitors and spectators.
Where appropriate, designated or pre-bookable spaces should be available for crates and preparation equipment.
Access routes, ring entrances and circulation areas must remain practical and safe.
People should arrive at a WDF event ready to enjoy their day, not prepared to fight for a few square meters of space.
4. ANIMAL WELFARE MUST ALWAYS COME FIRST.
The dog is the true protagonist of every canine exhibition.
Its welfare must never be sacrificed for organizational convenience, commercial interests or competition schedules.
Every WDF event must respect applicable animal welfare legislation and the Federation’s relevant requirements.
Organizers must pay particular attention to suitable environmental conditions, adequate spaces, access to drinking water, opportunities for rest, safe handling procedures, hygiene and appropriate veterinary arrangements.
Excessive stress, unsafe conditions and inappropriate treatment must never be accepted as normal parts of a dog show.
Animal welfare is not a slogan to be printed on a poster. It is a responsibility that must be demonstrated through practical decisions.
5. QUALIFIED JUDGES, TECHNICAL COMPETENCE AND FAIR EVALUATIONS.
The credibility of our Federation depends heavily on the quality and professionalism of our judging system.
WDF-recognized shows must employ properly qualified and authorized judges in accordance with the relevant regulations.
Judges must be able to perform their duties independently, without inappropriate interference, favoritism or pressure.
The evaluation of dogs must focus on the applicable breed standards, morphology, movement, balance, temperament and relevant functional characteristics.
The ring must remain a place of technical evaluation.
Organizers must protect the integrity of judging procedures and ensure that every exhibitor is treated with professionalism and respect.
Not everyone can win.
Not everyone will agree with every decision.
But everyone deserves a serious, fair and professionally managed competition.
A title becomes valuable when the evaluation behind it is credible.
6. COMPETITION INSIDE THE RING. FRIENDSHIP OUTSIDE THE RING.
This is one of the principles we consider fundamental.
Dog shows are competitions, and competition naturally involves ambition, excitement and disappointment.
But competition must never become an excuse for hostility.
Personal attacks, gossip, intimidation, disrespectful behavior and unnecessary rivalries should have no place in our events.
We want exhibitors who can compete for the same title and shake hands afterward.
We want people who can congratulate a winner even when they themselves have lost.
We want breeders who exchange knowledge rather than treating every other breeder as an enemy.
And we want newcomers to feel welcomed rather than intimidated.
At WDF, winning should never be more important than respect.
7. PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATION, PUNCTUALITY AND CLEAR COMMUNICATION.
A successful exhibition requires preparation.
Ring assignments, judging schedules, staff responsibilities, registration procedures, results management and award ceremonies must be properly planned.
Delays and unexpected difficulties can occur at any event.
What matters is how professionally they are handled.
Exhibitors should know where to go, when to present their dogs, whom to contact and how to obtain official information.
Results, qualifications and awards must be communicated clearly and accurately.
Where digital systems are available, they should be used to simplify procedures, improve transparency and reduce unnecessary administrative difficulties.
Respecting an exhibitor also means respecting their time.
8. EDUCATION AND KNOWLEDGE MUST BE PART OF OUR IDENTITY.
The World Dog Federation does not exist exclusively to organize competitions.
We have a broader responsibility toward canine culture, breed preservation, responsible breeding and professional development.
Our events should encourage opportunities for learning, constructive dialogue and the exchange of technical knowledge.
Experienced handlers should be encouraged to help newcomers.
Breeders should have opportunities to discuss breeding practices, genetics, morphology and canine health.
Judges and professionals should contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
Young handlers should be welcomed, encouraged and supported.
Knowledge becomes more valuable when it is shared.
We do not want a canine world in which experience is used to establish superiority over others.
We want a community where experience helps others grow.
9. EVERY BREED, EVERY EXHIBITOR AND EVERY COUNTRY DESERVES RESPECT.
WDF is an international Federation.
Our community includes Kennel Clubs, breeders, judges and enthusiasts from many nations, cultures and canine traditions.
This diversity is one of our greatest strengths.
Every officially recognized breed deserves serious consideration according to the applicable regulations and standards.
Every participant deserves fair treatment, regardless of nationality, personal connections, experience or the popularity of their breed.
International cooperation must never be reduced to an exchange of titles.
It must encourage cultural exchange, professional relationships and genuine collaboration between nations.
We are not merely connecting Kennel Clubs. We are connecting people who share the same passion across borders.
10. AN EVENT IS SUCCESSFUL WHEN PEOPLE WANT TO RETURN.
This is perhaps the most important principle of all.
An organizer may distribute hundreds of certificates, beautiful trophies and prestigious titles.
But none of these achievements can replace the atmosphere experienced by participants.
A person may win a championship and return home disappointed because of poor organization or an unpleasant environment.
Another person may leave without winning a single class and still feel happy, inspired and eager to attend the next event.
Because they felt welcomed.
Because they met new friends.
Because they learned something useful.
Because their dog was treated properly.
Because they enjoyed being part of the community.
That is the experience we want every WDF Kennel Club to create.
TO ALL WDF KENNEL CLUBS: THE RESPONSIBILITY IS NOW OURS.
The World Dog Federation invites every affiliated Kennel Club and national representative to carefully reflect on these principles when planning future events.
Do not organize an exhibition simply because another organization is holding one.
Do not measure success exclusively by the number of registrations.
Do not reduce the importance of an event to the quantity of certificates, championships or trophies awarded.
And above all, do not believe that displaying the WDF logo automatically makes an event different.
THE DIFFERENCE MUST BE VISIBLE IN THE ORGANIZATION, THE PEOPLE, THE ATMOSPHERE AND THE EXPERIENCE.
We must distinguish ourselves through the quality of our work.
Through respect for animal welfare.
Through the professionalism of our judges.
Through transparency.
Through well-organized exhibition spaces.
Through the way we welcome participants.
Through our willingness to listen, learn and improve.
And, most importantly, through the genuine passion that brought us into the canine world in the first place.
We understand that organizing an event requires enormous effort, financial resources, dedication and responsibility.
No organizer is perfect, and no event is completely free from unexpected difficulties.
But every organizer can choose the standards they wish to pursue.
The WDF name must become synonymous with quality, respect, professionalism, education and a welcoming international community.
This is not a responsibility belonging exclusively to the Federation’s leadership.
It belongs to every national Kennel Club, every organizer, every official and every person representing WDF.
WE ARE NOT HERE SIMPLY TO CREATE MORE DOG SHOWS. WE ARE HERE TO CREATE BETTER DOG SHOWS.
The canine world does not need another organization that merely reproduces the habits and shortcomings exhibitors have already experienced elsewhere.
It needs organizations willing to listen.
Willing to improve.
Willing to put dogs and people before unnecessary rivalry.
Willing to promote genuine canine culture rather than simply distribute awards.
And willing to remember that our greatest strength is not the number of titles we can offer.
Our greatest strength is the community we are building.
We want exhibitors to return to WDF events not only because they believe they can win.
We want them to return because they feel respected.
Because they feel welcome.
Because they have learned something.
Because they have made friends.
Because they have experienced a day worth remembering.
Trophies eventually gather dust.
Certificates remain in folders.
But the memories, friendships, knowledge and positive experiences we create can last a lifetime.
THAT IS THE DIFFERENCE WE MUST MAKE.
THAT IS THE STANDARD WE MUST PURSUE.
THAT IS WHAT THE WORLD DOG FEDERATION MUST REPRESENT.
To every WDF-affiliated Kennel Club around the world:
Organize with professionalism. Judge with integrity. Welcome with respect. Protect animal welfare. Share knowledge. Build friendships. And never forget why we started.
We do this for genuine passion.
We do this for the dogs.
We do this for the people.
We do this for the future of cynology.
WORLD DOG FEDERATION – WDF
More than a Federation. A worldwide community united by passion, knowledge and respect. 🐾❤️
